~Storytime~

I read to my babies for over an hour this morning.  We read short stories, long stories, touch and feel books, and stories that had more animal sounds than actual words.  Alec kept bringing stacks of books and I just kept reading. Lyssa surprisingly stayed on my lap for most of them, wanting to snuggle and lay on my shoulder.  Alec, too, stayed close by, wanting to sit next to me, lean on my shoulder, or put his feet in my lap.  I love that he knew most of the lines to our stories.  I love that he knows which books are by Eric Carle, or Dr. Seuss, or Kevin Heinkes.  I love that Lyssa tries to do all the actions along with the stories, and keeps rhythm with me in Hand Hand Fingers Thumb (by Al Perkins as Alec would tell you).
I loved sitting there, laughing, smiling, singing, reading, and cuddling with my babies.  I loved their sweet little smiles and giggles.  I loved Alec's big toothy grin where I really can see all those beautiful pearly whites.  I love Lyssa's crooked tooth grin (her little teeth are all coming in randomly leaving a amusing smile). Most of all I loved being Mama.  And as I felt Lyssa slowly fall asleep in my arms, and Alec rest his head on my shoulder I wanted to savor that moment forever... and try to complain a little less and remember more why
I love to be my babies mother.
(UPDATE: And then about an hour later nap-time was interrupted by Alec throwing up all over his bed... I sure try to live in a fairytale, but lets get real... even the beautiful days still involve throw up and flooded basements sometimes.)

I hope the basement didn't flood too bad and your stuff is okay... You are so lucky to have kids that want to listen to stories for a whole hour. Many first graders don't even have that attention span.

Did your basement flood again? Seriously, I'm sorry. I hope that Alec feels better quick and that Lyssa doesn't catch it.
