This lucky little boy had quite the rockin' awesome fourth birthday! Not only did Daddy get to stay home from work for the day, but he woke up to this!

Balloons magically appeared in his room over night. What fun to wake up to a room full of balloons! The little man got to choose his breakfast, Captain Crunch! Then it was time to get stuff ready for his Super Hero birthday party/glorified playdate.
I'm not sure where Alec picked up the idea of birthday parties, but he told me one day that he REALLY wanted to have a party. At first I was kind of in a panic. A BIRTHDAY PARTY? Then I took a few deep breaths and realized I could make this as simple or complicated. I chose simple. I told him since he was turning four he could invite four friends plus Elyssa. As he is a super hero lover, the theme was an easy one. The two of us went to the store to pick out a few supplies and we made cupcakes the night before. Naturally everyone came dressed as a super hero!
We "battled" evil villains with balloons, we had "flying" lessons around the house, and we had a BLAST doing super hero training downstairs at the top secret SUPER HERO TRAINING CENTER! Nick and I set up an amazing obstacle course in the basement with masking tape arrows to lead the way. They had to crawl into a the super hero lair (under the table), climb over the great mountain (the love sac), climb up a hill and fly down (the slide), throw orange commits into the ring (make a few baskets), climb over another hill (the bed), through a cave (a table), punch out 10 villains (the punching bag), and jump from stepping stone to stepping stone around the ring of fire (a pile of red pillows). All the while they were cheering each other on, having a blast! Sadly I didn't get any pictures of the event because I was too busy cheering them on and helping them out. Nick took some awesome video. Maybe someday when he gets time to pull it off the camera we'll give you a peek at all the fun. :-)
We also strung our very own spiderman candy necklaces and colored spiderman super power candy rings with edible markers. I was really impressed with how well they strung those tiny little beads. They were so proud of themselves when they were finished.
Then it was time for happy birthday singing, cupcakes, pizza, and chocolate milk. From that point on they entertained themselves... or rather, the jokes came out and they were all laughing so hard at each other they were almost choking on their food. I looked around at all those cute little boys (plus Lyssa) and couldn't help feeling blessed that my little boy has such good friends. We are so lucky.
After the party was over we had storytime and quiet time. The party must have really wore out our little super hero because he fell asleep for two hours! When he woke up we played for a while before moving on to VIP time!
Everyone in the family went around and told Alec something they loved and admired about him. It was pretty awesome. Then he gave everyone their backwards birthday gifts! The best by far was watching Lyssa's excitement when she opened her Rapunzel princess dress. She gave Alec the best hug and he was so pleased that she liked it so much.
Then of course the little man opened his presents from Grandparents, Aunties and Uncles. What fun!
Then it was Breakfast for Dinner, per Alec's request. Waffles, bacon, oranges, bananas and juice. Yum! After an awesome, fun filled super hero day I tucked my sweet little Alec into bed, read "The Luckiest Boy in The Whole Wide Word" by Alec's Mommy, and told him his birth story. He loved every minute of it.
I couldn't help but tear up as I walked out of the room that evening.
I'm so glad that Alec is part of our family.

Chase LOVED this post. (Probably because there were pictures of him in it.) He loved the party and wanted to copy everything for his own birthday. Thanks for such a fun day.
It all looks like so much fun.
If I ever need rescuing, I know who to call!
I can't wait to see the video!
