~When Winter Decided to Show Up~

When real Iowa Winter finally made her grand entrance we didn't mind too much.  We've been spoiled with scattered warm days and sunshine pretty much all winter this year, so there was palatable excitement in the air as the first real deal snow came pouring down.  It couldn't have been better, being a lazy Saturday.  Perfect for spending the day playing in the snow.
To kick the day off we had a graham cracker house decorating party with some friends, using up the last of our ridiculous stash of Halloween and Christmas candy.  It was a test of patience for the kids to wait to decorate until after we got the roofs on our houses.
Then we warmed up with soup and sandwiches before bundling up and heading outside to play in the snow.
We made snow angels, had snowball fights, and went sledding down our front yard hill over and over for at least an hour.  Then we headed into the backyard to build a Frosty of our very own.
We eventually came inside and warmed up with hot chocolate, good conversation and lots of playing before heading out again to sled with the babies that had been napping.  The kids all had so much fun!  I didn't get any pictures from sledding but Nick did bring the video camera out and got a few shots.  Cordy was by far the most entertaining to watch, laying on her belly face first on the sled all by herself, flying down the hill with giggles and a wild grin that stretched from ear to ear showing off her 6 tiny teeth.  Priceless.
Thanks, Teeds, for coming to play all day!
And thank you, Iowa Winter,
for arriving late this year but showing up with style.  :-)
