~Alec's First Day of Kindergarten~

My handsome little man started Kindergarten.
Last Spring Alec told me through tears that he wasn't going to go to kindergarten.  I told him not to worry about it because it was a whole summer away.  Over the summer I mentioned it briefly here and there, but mostly we just didn't talk about it.  Then a week before school Nick asked him if he was ready and he actually said he was EXCITED!  Wow.  This made me soooo happy. My little man, was excited and ready and wanted to go and learn and play and have fun and meet new friends and be a big kid.
Alec and his fancy send off crew.  His sisters sure love him and missed not having him there all day to play with and entertain them.
The pirate backpack.  He as pretty excited about having a big kid backpack with a matching lunchbox.
His school is under renovations (that went long through the summer) so they are starting out the year at a church across town.  Though the bus was made free for everyone in the school boundaries I still decided I wasn't ready to send my 5 year old on a bus.  Luckily for me we have good friends a few streets over to carpool.  They do drop off in the morning and I do pickup.  Works great!  First day of school rolled around and Miss Katie came and picked him up and took him to school with his best friend, Mabel.  That day lots of people asked how drop off went and they couldn't believe I didn't TAKE HIM MYSELF for the FIRST DAY.  It totally made my mom guilt kick in.  Who sends their kindergartener to school with a friend on the first day?  Me.  The more I thought about it though, the more I realized it was a smart choice.  Alec went in with his best buddy, Mabel, and Miss Katie just fine, but if I had been there he might have cried.  Honestly I think things worked out for the best for everyone.  Who cares what other people think, right?
I remember when I would try and imagine Alec going off to school and it seemed so far away, but now I think back and it wasn't that long ago that he was standing at this very spot getting ready to start 2 year old preschool.  In some ways it feels like the blink of an eye.  He is getting so big and was so brave.

Is it weird that I kind of tear up looking back at these pictures?  Especially the 2 and 3 year old ones!

At least you got good pictures! Who cares if you were there until the last second when he walked in the door? I love that he has a pocket for his water bottle.
