~Mothers Day~

On Mother's Day I woke up to two little bodies right on top of me with their faces only inches away from mine while talking a hundred miles a minute.
Small Child:"Happy Mothers Day, Mom!  Look I made this card for you!  Do you want to see it?! Do you like?!  I made it special for you!  It says Happy Mothers Day and I love you!  It's for you!" (All while shoving the card inches away from my nose)

Me: (sputtering)"Thank you, sweetheart.  It's lovely.  I can't see it very well because it's too close to my face.  Can you scoot back a bit?"

Other Small Child: (also talking at high speed while jumping on my stomach) "Happy Mother's Day!  Here's my card too!  Do you love it?!  It's just for you, Mom! We made it with Daddy last night! We stayed up really late to make it for you!"

Me: "Thank you sweetheart.  It's lovely." (again, squinting so I can see the card that is inches above my eyes)

Small Child: "I love you, Mom! Happy Mothers Day!  We also have a present for you!  We picked it out last night with Daddy.  Do you want to open it? You should open it!  Here, I'll open it for you!  It's not pink because Daddy wouldn't let us get the pink one.  Can we open it for you?  Here it is Mom!"

In comes happy flying baby Cordy, courtesy of her Daddy, holding a little package.  (She too, lands inches from my face.)

Needless to say, I was happily overwhelmed.
The kids were so excited to make breakfast for me with Daddy, and we all got ready for church and out the door.  I was subbing a Primary class, and Nick graciously offered to teach it for me so I sat back and listened to him teach the 9 year olds all about the wheat and tares.
(Me and my little ladies)
Then we came home, did a quick Mother's Day photo shoot in the front yard under my blooming tree, and lazied around the house for the rest of the day.  It was perfect.
"No one loves you like your mother."  I had heard that phrase many times before, but never understood it.  I think I do now.  I'm so thankful for the wonderful mother in my life, who has loved me unconditionally, supported me, and become one of my very best friends.  I'm thankful for Nick's mother, who loved him and cared for him and raised him to be the wonderful father and husband he is today.  I am thankful for the opportunity I have to be a mother to my three beautiful children.  They have changed my life in so many ways.  I have learned a whole new meaning of the unconditional love and learned so much about the Saviors love for all of us.

I've heard it said before that Mother's Day makes some people feel guilty.  I don't try to pretend that I'm the most patient or perfect mother.  I surely have days when I lose my temper, get easily annoyed, or just want to press the reset button and start over.  At the same time, I know that most of the time I really am doing my best and I am providing for my children's spiritual, emotional, social, and physical needs.  They may not have a perfect mother, but who does?  We all get to learn and grow together.
Happy Mother's Day!
