Sammy Comes for a Visit!

Last week we had a visitor! My best friend from high school, Sammy, was driving out this way and decided to stop by for a visit. As many of you know, I went to high school in Omaha, Nebraska (just a few hours away from Des Moines). My parents moved right after I graduated though so I haven't ever really been back to Nebraska, and have sadly not kept in contact with very many people. I have always kept in contact with Sammy though. She was fabulous and came out to L.A. to visit me after my freshman year of college, and the year after Nick and I got married she came to visit us in Utah.... but between moving and travels around the world our schedules have not connected again until just recently. I've been meaning to bring the kids down to Omaha so she could meet them, but she beat me to it and came up our way!

Alec took to Sammy instantly (no surprise there). He loved her "pretty" necklace, her earrings, and her keys.... but he also loved that she just knew to pick him up and read him stories and play! I had so much fun just talking with her and catching up on life and our families lives and all the exciting adventures she continues to have. Alec had to go down for a nap, and Sammy left while he was sleeping. As soon as he woke up though he asked for "Sammy! Sammy!" Though he was sad she was gone, he was very excited that she came back for a short visit a few days later!

Watching Alec with Sammy made me so happy. I wish he could be around people that adore him like that all the time and I wonder why I hadn't made the trip sooner! Talking with Sammy made me so happy too. Even after not seeing each other for years, she is still someone that I instantaneously feel comfortable around. I know I can be myself and she likes me for me and she's always so fun! No wonder we hit things off so well back in 9th grade! Sad for us, Sammy had to head back home after hours of talking, but we promise to come and see her and maybe go to the zoo next fall when she gets back from France. We may have to interrupt her medical school studies and have her play with us more often! Thanks for visiting Sammy! Have fun in France and take lots of pictures!
