5K HERE I COME!

So I've never considered myself much of a runner. A swimmer? Yes. A dancer? Yes. A gymnast? Yes. A climber? YES! But a runner?? It's just really hasn't been my thing... until I had Alec. Then suddenly my world of exercise options seemed to disappear and my post-baby body loomed back at me in the mirror. Yikes! My ever so kind mother bought me a baby jogger and soothing Alec in the baby jogger became my form of exercise. I was getting pretty good about running every day and getting back into shape. Then the heat came, I got a little sick, and BAM! I found out that I was pregnant and moving and any desire to run that I had before ceased to exist.

Alec in the baby jogger after one of my runs last year... you can see the tire marks in the grass...

Now I am happy mom of two. My exercise options REALLY seem limited now as the budget stretches thinner and thinner. To join a gym with babysitting would be great... but not exactly in the card right now. I did, however, find a double baby jogger on clearance! It's not the Baby Jogger brand, but definitely not the Double Stroller Baby Jogger price either. They cost $400 upwards! Ridiculous! I definitely feel strong trying to lift it though! Good thing I have a mini van to fit that beast inside!

Yea, the double jogger doesn't fit through any doors at my house... I learned that the hard way...

Anyway, now that the weather is warming up and Elyssa is holding her head pretty well I decided that I have no excuses. It's time to get out and run. So I did! I walked over 4 miles the other day and ran almost a mile and felt GREAT! I had my "Kitchen Dance Party" music blasting on the Ipod as I jogged and pushed a hefty double stroller into the wind. I kept giving myself benchmark points. "Just make it to that park bench" and then "okay you did that. Now just make it to that light pole" until my body said "not so fast sister!" So I'm trying to ease my way into things.

Alec was great and when I would start to get tired I would say "Come on Alec! We can do it!" and he would yell back "GO!!!" It's was something straight out of a cheesy movie. I'm sure anyone that could have heard us would have laughed.

My goal is to keep on running and hopefully run a 5K this Fall. After that I'll work my way up to a quarter marathon and then who knows! Maybe in a year I can run a half marathon! I just want to feel healthy again. I want to get a little closer to that forever gone pre-pregnancy size. My fear is that without anyone else depending on me I'll slack off and stop running. I guess I just don't have much faith in my on-going self-motivation skills. Maybe this time I'll be able to do it though. And maybe I'll find a running partner. Until then, hopefully Alec will just keep yelling "GOOOO! GOOOO!"

oh i loved this post! I laughed so hard just imagining this tough little woman with the most determined look on her face, pushing this big double stoller, and alec sitting up with arms outstreched yelling "go!! go!" and the background music in this little movie of mine was the rocky theme...you know, when he's running up the steps? very inspiring.

Hooray for jogging strollers! I LOVE mine, and bust it out whenever I can. We should get together some day and walk. I'd like to do a 5K in the Fall, too - maybe we can find one we can both do. If I know someone is expecting me to be there I might actually get myself back into shape. :)

Way to be, Chrissy! I would love to go running with you, but I bet you go during the time I'm at work. Maybe someday, right?
