So Christmas finally came. Alec was up a couple times during the night thanks to his nasty ear infections, but that did not stop him from having fun Christmas morning. Lyssa must have been exhausted because even after we left her door opened and turned on the lights and she still stayed asleep for another 15 minutes. When she did come out though she was a happy camper.
Nick and I knew almost all our presents. I knew this one, but I was still excited about anything coming in a little velvet box or bag... too bad I lost my little peril earring "treasures" (as Alec calls them) at my parents house just a few days later. Sad...
Alec gave us quite the show. This little man turned into the WILD THING once he found out that all those presents under the tree contained exciting stuff for playing! He didn't care whose present it was, he wanted to open it and he sure tried. It was really hard to keep him under control while we were taking turns. I'm pretty sure he opened almost all of my gifts and Lyssa's gifts.
The gift that I was most excited to give to my kids were the matching superhero capes I made for them. So fun and so perfect for my little superman and super-baby!
Alec took off like a flash, singing the Superman theme song the entire way around the house.
Lyssa crawled after him, following his lead in her own way. Someday she'll walk, but we are certainly in no hurry. One walking and running (and bonking) child is enough for the time being, thanks.
Alec did take a few minutes away from all the toys to check out his books. He's my little book lover through and through!
Lyssa was excited too for all her new stories from Grandma Shannon.
To be honest, Alec turned into such a wild thing that I found myself thankful that we only do massive gift giving one day a year. (We do backwards birthdays at our house, but that's another post entirely). Lyssa, on the other hand, was an angel, cuddling with everyone and smiling on demand most of the day.
All the Parkinson siblings came for breakfast and we continued the gift opening. Alec was one lucky little boy, receiving some "Cars" themed vehicles, all wrapped up in Lightening McQueen paper! In the words of Alec "KACHOO!"
Pretty much every year Nick's parents give some sort of new game to the entire family that we get to play for the rest of the day. This year they went above and beyond buying the Wii sport! Everyone was very excited... so excited that I'm not sure if Nick or I ever got to even touch it. That's okay though. This summer when everyone else is sick of it, we'll come back and play to Nick's hearts content.
We also were able to take a family photo over at the city building. We don't take too many group shots, so it's always exciting to get an update! It won't be long before this photo is out of date though because Heather and Lance will be welcoming their baby boy to the world come the end of March. We're so excited for them!
It was a wonderful way to spend the holiday, with fabulous company, yummy food, and happy hearts. Thanks, Grandma and Grandpa for spoiling us all rotten. And to all my faithful readers out there, Merry late Christmas and Happy Winter!

Congrats to Heather and Lance and good timing. Having a baby in March means you have time to get back into shape for summer fun and you never have to brave the summer heat while being enormously pregnant.
Did you know that I have both of your pearl earrings? One does not have a back, but they are both in my ring box. I forgot about them and don't even remember when we (or who) found the second one.
