The Night of the Pomegranates...

During this snowy season at times I've had to find joy in the little things to keep smiling.  One of those sweet delicious happy little things are pomegranate seeds.  I LOVE pomegranates and this seems to be the season to find and devour them.  Alec too has aquired a taste for all things pomegranate.  We have yet to find a fruit this kid won't eat.  Meat or bread? That's another story for another day...

Last night I threw some in a salad to pep it up a bit and I gave Alec a little bowel, leaving him under Nick's careful supervision that turned out to not be so careful.  It wasn't five minutes before the kid dropped them on his chair and proceeded to squash them with the seat of his baby blue and white striped church pants.  Fabulous! I stripped him of the luxury of pants, and proceeded to head downstairs to find some stain remover, hoping that all the stories about permanent pomegranate stains were lies.

I was gone for what seemed to be two minutes only to hear Alec scream, "MY POMEGRANATE!  Oh no!  It's stuck!"  Sure enough, the kid had stuck a pomegranate seed up his nose.  Bahh!  As Nick went to work trying to get it out, I stood there praying we wouldn't be spending the evening in the emergency room, trying to laugh off the situation in my mind. Apparently it wasn't just in my mind though because Alec kept saying "Mommy!  That was funny, huh?  Yeah, that was funny!"

Later the two of us had a serious discussion about not putting things up our noses...

So all in all we learned a good lesson.  No pomegranate seeds (or other small things for that matter) without constant supervision.  We also learned that these sweet little red morsels of goodness taste great with mushrooms and spring lettuce mix!

Oh, and in case you were wondering, the stains came out of the pants.  Hallelujah for Shout

I think I stuck a pea up my nose once when I was really young. What in our curious little heads makes us think that food is a good thing to put in our noses with our boogers and snot. Yummy! I love this food. Maybe I should stick this up my nose?? Kids are funny.

Yes, Erin, I think it was a bean seed and you were about 2 years old. Grandma Marion got it out, thank goodness.

Cute babies are great winter therapy. Great stories, Chrissy!
