~NYC: Coney Island~

Our last day was spent visiting the infamous Coney Island!  We ate lunch at the original Nathan's hotdog stand before heading over to the boardwalk.  Ryan brought along his amazing dragon kite, which was fitting.  We read a story prior to our trip all about some kids who flew dragon kites in NYC.  The kids thought it was awesome.... and lets just say that the people watching was pretty fun too.
I forgot to pack swimsuits for anyone but that didn't stop us from getting wet and playing in the water.
The kids had a blast running and jumping over the waves, playing in the water sprayers up the beach, and digging in the sand.
Afterward our kids were sooo nasty dirty and soaking wet that we let them strip right down to the underwear as we walked back to the car.  They actually fit in pretty well with all the crazy outfits (or sometimes lack there of) that people were wearing.
We went the long way home, stopping in the city for "I Heart NY" shirts and contemplated stopping for pizza at an authentic italian place, but then remembered the naked sandy kiddos and decided against it.  Instead Erin and I ran into the Food Network famous Crumbs Bake Shop for some amazing birthday cupcakes.  There were soooo many flavors to choose from that it was hard to even pick 6!  We then went back to Erin and Ryan's place to clean up, eat dinner, and relax before heading home to Iowa.
Just before we left we made sure to break into those cupcakes and I was happily serenaded with songs of Happy Birthday wishes.  It was a fantastic way to end a month long birthday celebration. :)  Then we said our goodbyes and climbed in the car, where the kids fell fast asleep and Nick and I took turns driving home through the night and next day.  It was an awesome, crazy adventure!  We never could have done it without Erin and Ryan not only providing us a place to stay, but being our drivers, helpers and guides through the city.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you, Erin and Ryan, for such an awesome, memorable long weekend!!!!!
We love you to bits and think you're the best!
Happy 27th Birthday to me!
Though I've never been a big fan of odd numbers, by the way I kicked things off I have the feeling it's going to be a good year.
Goodbye, New York City!
I really enjoyed your many sites and sounds and  hope to see you again someday!
