~I MUST CHOP~

In Starks Family Folklore there is a story about a very young Michael, standing over my napping dad on a Sunday afternoon with a wooden axe.  Mike had just watched a cartoon movie about Nephi going to retrieve the plates of Brass from Labon, where ultimately he had to chop off his head.  In this moment Mike was Nephi with his sword, and my poor sleeping father was Labon.  My dad said he opened his eyes with the axe raised high above him and Mike said "I MUST CHOP!"  To which my Dad said "No you don't!" before quickly rolling out of the way.

For about a year now I have found myself looking at my hair in the mirror saying "I must chop," but there was this other part in my head that kept saying "no you don't".  So I didn't cut my hair.  Finally something clicked in my brain this summer, reminding me that I am a cyclic person: I chop it off, and it all comes back in a few years if I so desire.  It was long and it was time.

I had 16 inches taken off and donated to Locks of Love.  Two thick, giant ponytails came off this head of mine.  It instantly felt lighter.  As much as I love long hair, this has to be one of the fastest hairdos I've ever head.  Between all the length gone and then the massive amount of thinning my stylist did, it dries pretty quickly on it's own.  I won't be able to get away with 6 months between haircuts anymore though.  Bummer.  Here's to change, and for a good cause!  :)
