Tubes for the Little Man

This morning my sweet little Alec went under the knife.
The little guy has had ear infection after ear infection this winter so the doctor finally gave the go ahead to get tubes put in both ear drums.  We've known this was coming for about a month so I had tons of time to prepare myself, and we prayed incessantly that he wouldn't get any more ear infections while waiting for the tubes.  Luckily he seemed to hold out pretty strong.

We got up very early, and I took Alec in his fuzzy green bear pajamas with Tigger in tow to the outpatient surgery center while Nick stayed home and let Lyssa sleep.  We spent about five minutes in the front waiting area with the toys and Curious George episode, and about an hour in the tiny back room with no toys but lots of untouchable medical equipment.  Needless to say I pulled out all the stops doing lots of entertaining really early this morning.  We had many tickle wars and I think he gave me about a million kisses (one of his latest tricks to "wake me up from princess sleep" or just butter me up to get what he wants).  Finally the doctor came in to say hello, the anesthesiologist said hello, and a nurse whisked Alec away before he knew what was happening.  It was a fast little surgery, and I was away from him for no more than 10 minutes tops.

When I went into the room he wasn't crying, but he looked so very confused and overwhelmed.  I took him from the nurse and tried to just hold him.  I offered him his milk cup and he guzzled it down.  Then he went to town on the corn pops a little too fast and almost threw up.  That made him really upset, so we spent a few more minutes just taking it easy before making our way home.

He was so proud to show Daddy his "ankle bracelet" (or ID bracelet) as soon as we walked through the door.  He was also excited to get it off.  Poor little Alec was less than thrilled that Daddy then had to head off to work, but someone has to make some money so we can have the insurance and pay the bills.  :-)  Now he's delightfully watching 'Cars' while eating animal crackers to his hearts content.  The doctors said that by the end of his afternoon nap he should be back to normal.  Based on the large amount of animal crackers consumed, the engine noises being produced, the frequency of Lyssa being shoved over, and the number of kisses I've already received the past two hours, I'm pretty sure Mr. Alec is back.

Hooray! So glad it went well and he's already back to his sweet self! (but sorry that Lyssa gets the brunt of it--tell her to call Maddie--she TOTALLY understands what it's like to be a punching bag).

What a little trooper! And is there anything that can't be made better with Animal Crackers?

We are so glad that things went well! Alec is such a trooper! Hopefully if tubes are in Carter's future he can be brave like his "friend Alec."

Brilliant and precious narrative about this event, Chrissy! Keep up the good work. Your children may not appreciate it until they are grown, but eventually they will! Hope the little fella is back "in the pink!"
