Saturday morning we went to a local Easter Egg Hunt put on by the Fire Department. Alec has been reading Happy Easter Little Critter! by Mercer Mayer for the past month, and apparently it really struck a cord in him. He expected Easter to be just like the Easter in the book. When I sent him downstairs to get clothes on for the egg hunt he came back with his sunday shirt, tie and vest, wondering as to the whereabouts of his church pants. When I asked him why he wanted to wear his shirt and tie (on a not Sunday) he proclaimed "THESE ARE MY EASTER CLOTHES!" Soooo not worth arguing, so he wore the tie and all with a pair of jeans and church shoes.
I was a little worried about Lyssa at the Easter Egg Hunt because she had to go with the 3-5 age group if we wanted to keep the kids together, and parents were not allowed in the field. Nick sat there strategizing with the kids on how to get the most candy and I stood back and laughed. Lyssa listened to nothing Nick said and headed for the middle of the field where all the big kids were. Luckily a nice 5 year old girl helped her out and showed her how to pick up the candy. At the end we had to send Alec out twice to get Lyssa to come back. She wanted to sit down and go through her spoils right there in the middle of the field. Funny girl.
Sunday morning the Easter bunny came, leaving an Ikea puppet stage (Yes, Tiffany. I've been holding onto that one since our trip last May), finger puppets, chocolate bunnies, Peeps, and a catch the bunny set for the kiddos. Nick got his long desired batman belt buckle. Smiles all around.
Sunday afternoon between General Conference sessions the kiddos ventured out in the backyard for their own mini egg hunt. The kids learned that with Nick hiding the eggs you have to look way down low and way up high to find your eggs.
After conference we had our untraditional, yummy Easter Dinner: grilled salmon, garlic roasted potatoes, steamed broccoli, and fresh mango. With all the sugar covered Peeps the kiddos had already consumed we opted out of dessert and moved on to dying easter eggs. Please excuse Lyssa's nudity. She kept splashing dye on her shirt.
Between General Conference and a nice relaxed weekend as a family we really did have a lovely weekend. I tell ya, having two kids so close in age has it's perks! They are so funny together. How lucky they are to already have a built in BFF in their family.
Happy Easter!

Haha for the puppet stage. :) I hope they liked it!
What a fun Easter weekend. Good job, mom and dad.
Those are really great pictures. I love that Alec wants to dress up from time to time.
