Along with many other Iowans, our basement flooded last Friday morning. Yuck! Thursday night Alec refused to go to bed. After two hours of trying, we finally go him down. Emotionally exhausted, I went upstairs to get ready for bed and the tornado sirens went off. With a heavy heart, we went and got the kids out of bed and headed for the basement. After a half hour we headed back upstairs. I was grateful their was no tornado, but felt like waking up Alec was for nothing. Luckily it only took half an hour to get him down the second time, but still we were exhausted. The next morning I woke up thinking "thank goodness I don't have anything I have to get done today because the kids are already crying and I'm totally exhausted!" Then Nick came upstairs to let me know the basement flooded. Crap! It's a good think Nick had gone down before he left for work or we may have not found it until that evening because I don't always go downstairs with the kids.
We made some calls, and my friend Tiffany graciously agreed to watch Alec for the day while we cleaned up the mess. We made some calls to rental places, and at one place the lady practically laughed at Nick when we were looking for carpet fans. She said they were getting calls at 1 AM! We were thankfully able to borrow a wet/dry
vacuum and a second dehumidifier from friends. Everything else went on the handy dandy credit card. Ouch...
Moving furniture and all our basement stuff reminded me how much I hate moving and packing and I found myself saying "Why do we have all this stuff! We need to purge!" I swear I'm becoming less sentimental all the time. I found my wedding dress and noticed there was a little whole in the bottom of the bag where it touches the ground. I totally freaked out thinking the dress would be ruined. Luckily it was fine, but I started to wonder to myself why I still have it... It's not like I'm going to be wearing it again, and as long as I have it I'm going to worry about it getting ruined. At the same time I don't want to give it up to any old
joe.

After a long hard working day I felt totally drained and exhausted, but thankfully the sun was shining! Thankfully we were able to salvage our carpet! Thankfully we have good friends that are willing to help us out at the last minute! Thankfully Alec was in the best mood ever after spending the day with Tiffany and Jakob! Thankfully I didn't have to clean all alone because Nick was able to stay home and help me! Thankfully we had a sump pump to help with at least some of the water! Even though I was exhausted, I'm still thankful for so many things! Oh! And I was daring and tried on my wedding dress since it was already out. It may be a bit snug, but it still fits! So despite it all, there is still much to be thankful for.

Good job being able to fit into your wedding dress especially after having 2 babies and not having to much time since you've had Elyssa! You look beautiful!
Reading all your other posts above remind me of what a good example you are to me! You always have such a good attitude when things are not all going as good as they could be! Thanks for your example!
