~Family Temple Weekend~

What is the first thing your kids do when they get to a hotel? Mine go completely crazy.
At the beginning of October we decided that it was high time we figured out a way to go to our temple in Omaha, instead of only going once or twice a year when we are out in Idaho and Utah where we can have family babysit.  We would go with our ward, but we've always had kids too young to leave with the childcare, so we decided to make it happen ourselves.  On October 14th week made a weekend out of it!  We rented a hotel room close by with a pool.  We swam in the pool, having a great time, and ate dinner. Then Nick got ready and went to the last temple session of the evening while I stayed and put the kids to bed. I spent the next two hours with a book and a wheeled office chair in the bathroom waiting for Nick to come home. What I will do to let my kids sleep, eh?  The next morning I got up early and helped take the kids down to breakfast before I headed over to the temple for their first session.  Meanwhile Nick got the kids ready for the day.   Afterwards we headed off to a fun filled day at the Omaha Zoo. This way we both got to go to the temple and the kids had fun! It's not the cheapest way, but it's a financial sacrifice we're willing to make every few months if we can go to the temple more than once a year.  :-) Worth every penny.

A great plan! It looks like you had a zoo in the hotel as well:-)

I'm so proud of you. I'm glad your finding a way. And what a fun family experience and good example you're setting for your kids.

This is genius! The hotel is expensive, but what a great way to show your kids how much the temple matters.

We have a temple less than a half hour away and we have two more temples under construction about the same distance...sadly, we only go when we are in Idaho sometimes when we are on other trips, but I have been to the D.C temple more recently than the Mesa temple (the last time I was at the D.C temple I was pregnant with Lola, so over 4 years ago). We just have weird enough schedules and no one to watch the kiddos. I can't even remember the last time I went to the temple...probably last Christmas...I am glad that you two have figured it out.
