Some friends taught me how to make baby headbands. I've never really put a lot of thought into how they would be made, and was surprised at how easy they are! I've always thought it was funny when I've seen babies with flowers on their heads where the flower was actually bigger than their head. I still think that some flowers are too big, but I go with Kelly's thoughts that if you can see the baby before the flower then it's not TOO big. :-) Lyssa was kind enough to model some for me...
Seeing how we are "frequent flyers" in this house, I thought these super hero capes were a marvelous idea!
I know that according to Edna 'E' Mode (from this FABULOUS MOVIE)...
...super hero's need "NO CAPES!" but Alec loves running around pretending his hooded towel is a cape, so I thought making one especially for him would be a hit. I was right too. The day I finished one I wore it when I went to get Alec up from a nap. The first thing he said was "MOMMY! CLOTHES!!!!" Then he pulled my shoulder around to see the back and said "OOOOHHH! MOMMY! STARS!!" It was hilarious! I wish I had a camera there filming his reaction to the big letter 'A'. :-) I also decided to make one for Elyssa. I have the feeling that it won't be too long before she'll want one too, watching her brother run around the house. I hope I can hold out to give them to the kids at Christmas. I had so much fun making them that I'm thinking about doing another one for my nephew, Shayden, for Christmas as well!
Remember that big box of apples I had sitting in my kitchen? Well, after I opened the box and had 15 (or more) fruit flies fly right in my face, I decided that it was high time I did something with them before the flies overtook my kitchen. We put the kids down for naps and got cracking on making applesauce. Nick borrowed an applesauce grinder from a friend, and went to town! We had so much fun that we went back last night for FHE to pick more apples.
Alec gets so excited when he successfully pulls one off the tree all by himself. You can tell he gets something out of feeling like he's contributing to a family job.
Lyssa had fun trying to grab the apples out of my hands.
Nick and I put the babies to bed and got started on more applesauce. I can only imagine what our neighbors must have thought of us grinding up apples on the back porch at 9 PM! It's just so easy though! The apples were so sweet that we didn't need to add sugar. You just cut the apples in quarters, boil them in a pot of hot water until they're soft, then put them in the grinder! The yummy stuff comes out one side and the cores, skins, seeds, etc. come out the other. We bagged probably somewhere around 20-25 quart sized freezer bags of applesauce and stuck it in the deep freeze. I just wanted to bottle this smell and keep it in my house all Fall. I know you can't smell it from the picture, but the scent of sweet boiled apples is deliciously the essence of Fall! I decided to continue the domestic trend and saved a few apples for Apple Cake and an Apple pie. I've never actually made apple pie... Have any good apple pie recipes for me?
