Last Saturday our little family took a half day trip up to Ledges State Park, a short 35 miles from Des Moines.

With hills (almost like mountains), ledges (almost like cliffs), rivers, and tons of trees its the closest thing to hiking in Utah you'll find around these parts. We weren't looking for anything too strenuous though. We invited along some good friends, The James'. With two 1 year olds and two 2 year olds we just took our trails at the kids pace, exploring fallen trees, finding crazy jumping caterpillars, and touching fuzzy moss. The boys kept each other motivated, often running way ahead while Lyssa literally hung out in the Baby bjorn the entire time. Eventually she got tired and fell asleep. Yay for a baby who can still sleep almost anywhere! Now if only we could convince her to fall asleep at church...
Before we settled down for a picnic lunch we spent a lot of time playing in the rivers. Carter was the only one brave enough to forge his way all the way across, but everyone had a good time splashing around a bit. The boys (old and young) had a blast skipping and throwing rocks into the water. They were a hoot, so proud of themselves when they would make a big splash!
We all went home tired, but happy as can be. I'm sure we will be heading back to explore again soon. Thanks James Family for joining us on our little outdoor expedition!

I've never even heard of this place! Sounds like you had a blast - I'm sad we won't be able to fit this in before leaving Iowa.
Very cute pictures! You are getting pretty good at that sweet camera of yours! We have been meaning to make it over to Legends for 2 years now. Maybe this summer will be the one.
Looks like so much fun!!
Come visit us in New Hampshire... We'll give you tons of hiking! (Or we'll come visit you there... either way works for me.)
So much fun! I love the pictures. :-)
We had such a great time! Carter loves looking at the pictures of him and Alec throwing the "huge rocks Mommy" Your pictures turned out 100% better than mine, I am going to have to sign up for the first ever "Chrissy's photography class" will you let me know when it is?
