~My Birthday~

I've always made a big deal about my birthdays, though I don't come from a big birthday celebrating family. Growing up I was known in my family to plan multi-day celebrations for myself. My birthday quite frequently falls around Memorial Day weekend. I always felt like the world was celebrating my birthday by giving everyone a holiday, kicking off the summer season, and ending the long school year. I turned everything that week into a justifiable birthday celebration. As an adult I justify everything even slightly selfish that I do in the month of May as part of my birthday celebration.
Some may consider this all very self centered and I won't deny it. It really is all about me, but at the same time I can't remember ever ending a birthday and feeling disappointed. No one could ever through me a surprise party because if I don't know something planned then I make plans myself. I'm not going to sit around and feel sad on my special day. This year was no exception to the rule. The morning started off happy and slow. No hair pulling, whining, or nagging to get out the door. We just took things easy. Then we were off to indulge in cupcakes from a fabulous little cupcake shop in Valley Junction and play at the park with many of my friends and their cute kids.
Nick came home from work early and I everyone their birthday presents from me. The babies were very excited for their new outdoor toys and Ikea table and chairs. Now they really can live in a Dr. Seuss book. They've got the furniture anyway. :-)
Nick also enjoyed his gifts.
After feeding the babies dinner on their new table and chairs...
we dropped off the babies with our fabulous friends, The James Family, and headed out on a hot date. Yes, I even got to wear my hot dress (the silk navy one I bought in Minneapolis from Martin+Osa). Off to Biaggi's for a delicious dinner, then over to Granite City to snag some more chocolate cake (they may tie with Biaggi's on the best chocolate cake). Afterwards we went over to Barnes and Noble to browse through books, and dream about knowing how to use our camera like professionals. Then off to Angels and Demons to analyze and compare the film to the book we both read years ago. We came home to find the babies happily fast asleep in their beds. It was a wonderful night, and I went to bed very happy. Really, the only sad part is that we didn't take a single picture that evening... but the James' did take this one for us.  Apparently they were more interested in watching Cars than taking a picture.  Little Lyssa looks like a linebacker in this one!  Hilarious!
Thank you to all my friends and family who made my day special. Thank you to my mom for giving me life and a reason to celebrate! Thank you to Nick for being my hot date, and thank you to the James family for loving our kids and spoiling us rotten.

Happy Birthday Chrissy! I am so glad that we could be a part of your b-day celebration! I think everyone should go "all out" on their birthday and love that you feel the same way! Your kids were a dream and I love that our kids love you guys too! ps- you look a lot like Lyssa in your baby picture!

Lyssa looks like such a Big Girl sitting in her chair! I swear, they go from babies to toddlers overnight.

That little outfit Lyssa is wearing in the collage is so cute. I'm glad you had a happy birthday!

Lyssa, you won't be a cute linebacker forever! Soon you'll just be cute. I love you tons, you little cutie!

You are so lively and always seem happy to use that energy to better whatever and whoever surrounds you. I hope it really was a wonderful birthday.
