~Pumpkin Carving 2010~

We've had our pumpkins sitting outside for a few weeks, waiting to be turned into masterpieces.  Well, finally that day arrived.  Monday night we lugged those pumpkins in the house and on to the table where we cut those babies open!  The kids were so excited!  Sadly I had forgot to recharge my battery after our photo shoot the day before so I didn't get any pictures of the process.  Mostly it was Nick picking out templates, me gutting and cleaning the pumpkins, and the kids cheering us on.  Oh and Cordy?  She slept in her bouncer next to table like the sleep baby that she always seems to be... and then blessed me with an 8 hour stretch for the second night in a row.  Hallelujah!
I knew exactly how I wanted to do my pumpkin this year, and with the help of Nick's cordless power drill it took me about 10 minutes to make my orange Disco Ball.  I LOVE it.
We looked at all sorts of different templates with the kids and tried to steer them away from the really complicated or spooky pumpkins, but they both INSISTED that they wanted to do Jack the Pumpkin King.
They did so well poking the holes along the template, and Nick even taught them how to carve with the pumpkin knives.  Once they were finished they spent the rest of their time carving up the extra pieces.  What fun!
Nick kept going back and forth with different ideas, but finally settled on the Nerd Herd symbol from the NBC TV show Chuck.  I think he did an awesome job!
Yes, we are nerds and proud of it.
The kids were so proud of all our pumpkins... and loved that we let them stay up until 10 PM!
Then we lugged our pumpkins back out on to the front porch to await to be lit again during the upcoming holiday festivities.  I think they look so fun!
Happy Halloween!

Cute pumpkins! We love carving them every year...it just looks like I might need a course on "how to" from the parkinson family so my pumkin will win next year.

Wow--you guys do a wondrous job at Halloween! How did you get the circle to stay in the middle of the pumpkin?
