About a week before Cordy turned 5 months old we decided to try her out on some rice cereal
per the prompting of her pediatrician.
Learning to swallow food has not been an easy task for any of my babies, and Cordy was no exception. More food probably came out of her mouth than went in, but overall I think we had a good time.
Then we needed to top her off with a bottle, not sure how much food she actually consumed during our rice cereal play time. Though you may not be able to see it in her face in this picture, Elyssa was excited for the opportunity to feed a real baby for the first time.
I think she was just annoyed with me for insisting on sitting right next to her the entire time...

Then Cordy got sick. We've tried to feed her rice cereal four more times since then and though she has handled the eating much better than our first try, three times she has got terribly sick afterwards. I'm talking throwing up for three to four hours at a time to the point where there is nothing left inside that little baby. It's violent and frightening. I'm not sure if she has a food allergy of if it's has just been coincidence since she has already been pretty sick each time. I mean, who is allergic to rice cereal? That can't be it! Right? Just to be sure we are waiting until she is completely 100% better before we try anything again. She may be the only 6 month old around who isn't eating solids, and sadly my super sleeper is starting to wake up hungry during the night, but until we know for sure what is going on we're going to hold out.

Are you allowed to start with a different food?
She won't be the ONLY 6 month old who isn't eating/did not eat solids. Though I did finally, begrudgingly start Poppy on solids around her 6-7 month mark. I only did this sparodically (like maybe a couple of times a week) until she turned 1 ish. She still nurses (and I love it and wish I could go on keeping her my baby forever) though since she will likely start pre-school with LolaBella this fall, I am thinking of weening her. Just do what works for you on your own time...and maybe she is allergic to rice cereal...it would be a fun piece of trivia for her to say about herself for getting to know you games etc.
She looks quite healthy to me. And still so happy!
