~Summer Vacation 2010: Stewart Falls~

July 5, 2010
To end our Independence Day family celebration, we went on an All-American family hike up Provo Canyon. (We invited Spencer and Josie along for the fun!)  It's beautiful country up there, and I got all sorts of nostalgic driving through Aspen Grove. I once upon a time spend my summer as a camp counselor taking care of little ones about the same age as my own kids.
Only when I was a camp counselor we never would have dreamed of taking those little ones on a hike, much less the 4 mile round trip hike to Stewart Falls.  Then again, as a counselor the odds were never in our favor. This time around we had almost twice as many adults as children, and luckily the kiddos were in pretty good moods as long as you took things at their pace.
I felt kind of wimpy, going so slow and being unable to help carry any little ones, but I guess I was carrying one inside.  Being put on limited activity by my doctors for 10 weeks has really taken a toll on my body this pregnancy and I feel like I'm in the worst shape I've ever been in my whole life.  Good thing it won't last forever.  I'll admit I was proud of myself for making it all the way to the waterfalls.  I thought the cold wet myst coming off the mountain felt wonderful, but my kids were freezing!  It sure was beautiful.
Our walk back down to the cars proved to be a lot for the kiddos so most of the adults took off at full speed with little ones in their arms or on their shoulders.  I was swelling, dehydrated, and having my fair share of braxton hicks contractions so I took things slow and my dad kindly stayed behind with me.
It was a lovely hike and I can't wait to do it again someday... when I'm not pregnant.  :-)
