~Alec Antidotes~

Am I stifling my child's creativity and imagination if I don't let my son wear a fleece winter hat (which he fondly calls his "helmet") to the Mall when it's 75 degrees outside?
That little man has a love for all things hat, and lately it's been all about the snow hats.  He would wear them every second of the day if we let him.  In fact he even wore one for naptime today and we let him wear one while riding his bike on our family walk this evening.  We got lots of chuckles from the neighbors.  I hope they didn't think we made him wear that hot thing.  If I was him I'd be sweating!

Another Alec antidote:

After buying paint at Lowes, keeping the babies out way past their bedtime which resulted in an Alec meltdown by the John Deere lawn mowers, we were quietly driving home.   We gave the babies the paint sticks to keep them entertained.  Alec hit the window and Nick warned him that if he did it again he would lose a paint stick.  Not two minutes later Alec smacked the window again.  Nick then proceed to try and follow through with his consequence.

Nick: Alec, give me a paint stick.
Alec: No!
Nick: Alec, I told you if you hit the windows you would lose a paint stick so hand it over.
Alec (whining like crazy): Nooooooo!
Nick: Alec, give it to me now or I will take it from you.
Alec (very matter of factly, how are you going to do that states): But Daddy, you have to drive the car!

At this point I'm laughing.  Alec is one smart cookie, though if you call him that he'll say "I'm not a cookie!  I'm a man!"

P.S. Nick was able to reason with Alec, and Alec sadly but willingly did give up his paint stick.  Thank goodness that boy can be reasoned with...  This parenting gig is tough stuff!
