Tulip Time 2009

Last weekend was the annual Tulip Time Festival in Pella, Iowa.  Everyone told us how fun it was last year, and I can honestly say the sites, sounds, and tastes did not disappoint!  The place reminded me of Stars Hollow in Gilmore Girls... cute, quaint, charming small town feel.  We went on a Thursday night and would have felt like intruders on locals night but everyone was so friendly! Seriously, it was the perfect time to go, not too crowded but not all rainy.

We started out with what else but the Tulips!  Seriously more tulips than I have ever seen since going to Holland as a child.  The babies loved them.
Then we were off to explore, finding old cars, a vintage fire truck (that Alec LOVED), beautiful water ways, and tiled murals.  We even watched a little bell/doll show at the clock tower.  The kids were mesmerized, and I sure enjoyed watching them.
Then we were off to explore large than life wooden shoes (which you can see Elyssa did not appreciate), windmills, dutch dancers, and tasty treats.  I loved the little pancakes, and the funnel cakes, and Nick enjoyed the romanian style bratwurst.  The babies mostly just liked the bag of chips Nick got with his brat.
While we were exploring we found a cute little courtyard with a beautiful fountain.  The babies loved touching the water, and climbing all around.  It was all fun and cute until Alec stole a nickle out of the fountain and we knew that was our cue to move on to something else....
Our everlasting camera battery then proceeded to die.  Sad, but understandable considering I hadn't recharged in over a month.  We had a blast and hope to make this a family tradition to experience the fun and beauty every year.  Happy Spring!

I am officially jealous of EVERY SINGLE picture you posted. Beautiful!

Weren't those mini pancake thingies the best? I could have eaten a lot more than twelve...

Isn't Tulip time the best? We missed you that morning, but looks like you had tons of fun with Daddy along. Great pictures!
