On Monday this little beauty celebrated her 2nd birthday!
We started the day off right with a room full of pink and yellow balloons. Ask either of my kids and they'll tell you that kicked and throwing balloons around is a wonderful way to start a glorious day!
Then we were off to eat breakfast; pancakes as Lyssa requested. After cleaning up I sat on the kitchen with Lyssa and told her the story of her birth. She was mesmerized and whenever I mentioned Lyssa as a tiny little baby she would rock her "pretend baby" back and forth in her arms. It melted my heart. We took our time getting dressed and I painted Lyssa's finger and toe nails bright pink. She was in HEAVEN! We read a million stories and played the morning away with her built in friend and partner in crime, Alec. While babies napped I readied for Lyssa's fabulous birthday dinner. Nick came home early to help celebrate the little ladies fabulous day.
Then a few close friends, per Lyssa's request, came to chow down on black beans and rice, broccoli, and chocolate milk. All are favorite comfort foods of my little lady. Then we played the "Happy Birthday" song with our new bells! So fun! The kids had a blast just rockin' out and dancing around to their own musical experiments. Afterward we had a few rousing rounds of Ring Around the Rosies before moving on to...
cupcakes!
Chocolate cupcakes with pink cream cheese frosting, topped off with fresh strawberries and raspberries per Elyssa Lael's request.
She sure is her mother's daughter.
Lyssa had no problem diving right into the cupcake.
After cleaning up she handed out her candy airplanes she made for all her guests for her backwards birthday. She was so excited! Alec and Nick were both thrilled about receiving their "special Lighting McQueen" cars. I already love the new blender. Lyssa has good taste. :-) All in all I think the Little Lady had a wonderful day, and she went to bed holding her Mortimer monkey, smiling from ear to ear.
How I love my little Independent Woman.

Darling girl! I am in love with those pigtails.
Okay, maybe I should care more about what my kiddies wear. What I mean is, your kids clothes look adorable and my kids clothes often make them look like orphans. I am not of the same camp that you and your sis are thinking that kids are treated better if they look nicer. Maybe they are and maybe not. I have seen it go both ways and people alreadu give my kids too much cute attention, so I don't feel a need to dress them so others will treat them well. I don't usually notice what others are wearing or if they gain or loose up to 30 pounds or or if they get their hair done differently. I may inherit this from my mom, I don't know. Back to clothes, I usually just think I want nice things and would rather spend money on myself than my child who won't care and it is AZ, so said kid will just be naked most of the time anyway. 99" of my kids clothes are hand-me downs that don't belong to us and we will return when they grow out of them. That being said. Lyssa is always dressed so cute. SO, your efforts are working because this lady who does not notice this stuff, just noticed. I will love her whatever she is/isn't wearing.
You definitely know how to throw a party! It looks like Elyssa had a great time. I can hardly believe she is 2 years old!
Thanks for letting us share your birthday, Lyssa! Jakob is still singing, "Happy Birthday to Lyssa!"
Happy third year, Lyss (now that you're two, you're in your third year). Can't wait to see you!
