~Morning After The First Snow~

At the beginning of December I decided to document the happenings in our home on the morning of the first big snow of the season, adding info every little while to a sticky note on my computer. By 11:00 AM I was exhausted. :-) Here is a peek into our world.

Monday, December 7, 2009

6:00 AM: Alec wakes up and goes straight to the potty, then goes to Lyssa's room to wake her up. Finds that there is child lock on the door, and doesn't bother putting forth the effort to open it. Instead he heads upstairs, happy, dry, and demanding first breakfast!

6:15 AM: Wonder if Alec is possibly half man half hobbit, the way he demands first breakfast, second breakfast, brunch, snack, lunch, dinner, supper... you get my drift.

7:30 AM: Elyssa and Alec jump up and down begging to go outside and play in the new snow even though it feels like 9 degrees outside according to weather.com.

7:45 AM: After digging around the house for snow clothes, boots, scarves, hats, and gloves taking bundled babies out to shovel the driveway.

7:50 AM: Babies fight over who gets to "help" me with the extra shovel.

8:00 AM: Decide babies need their own shovels so they can learn how to help with said snow and stop fighting. Wonder if such small shovels exist. Decide they must, and vow to buy some at any cost over the holiday season.

8:20 AM: Elyssa explores the front yard while Alec pushed around the extra shovel. Alec won.

8:35 AM: Alec helps Lyssa stand back up when she falls down and can't get up. (Name that holiday movie!)

8:45 AM: Elyssa freaks out after taking off her gloves for the third time only to discover once again that snow is painfully cold!

8:55 AM: Hurry to shovel the rest of the driveway while little children fight and scream at each other inside the house.

9:05 AM: Smile while watching my next door neighbor kindly plow the driveway of the single mom on my other side.

9:06 AM: Frown as I watch all the snow from her driveway get spit back out onto mine via snow plow. Sigh.

9:40 AM: Decide it's a good day to bake, keeping the house warm.

9:45 AM: Feel domestic about making whole wheat bread every other week for my families healthy consumption.

9:50 AM: Frustrated that I can't successfully cut bread recipe in half and make the yeast work.

10:15 AM: Feel a little too domestic when I realized I am out of wheat flour after 1 cup and have to pull out the wheat grinder and open the food storage wheat.

10:45 AM: Exhausted from grinding wheat and trying to keep little lady out of food storage wheat bucket.

11:00 AM: Ready for nap time upon discovery that my little bookworms have emptied out every single book from the bookcases.... and I'm short on honey for my wheat bread. Deep sigh. Prepare lunch.

Never a dull moment with the super hero and the little lady.

I love reading about your morning! IT's fun to hear the day to day things of other people. Sometimes my greatest accomplishment is getting us both dressed by naptime!
